About the Film
Balkan, or "bloody forehead" in Turkish, is a place of tragedy, wars, controversy, miraculous energy and indescribable beauty.
It is an absolute mystery for foreigners. Even We do not completely understand it.
Many tried to describe the Balkans.
Mesa Selimovic said: "It is a place of blood and honey."
One musician said: "Life here has always been between hope and despair."
Milorad Pavic wrote: "His name is Balkan, her name is Europe."
Although true, these thoughts are somehow superficial and incomplete.
While I was seeking for a truthful description of the Balkans I remembered Leo Tolstoy's words. He said: "Every wise saying is short".
My grandmother went much further in her description of the Balkans than all mentioned people.
